2021 was a year of brilliant debuts and discovering great new artists. Maybe this year will excel itself and give us even more. We’re excited about what we’ll hear over the next 12 months. As first revealed on the UK Gospel Show on Premier Gospel, here are some of the artists we think you should be paying attention to in 2022.
Musumba has done a lot in a short space of time and released music that has made us pay attention. We first came across the 18 year old from Bradford when she released her single Table as part of her EP entitled 2:40 but the reality is that there’s a lot to choose from. The singer, rapper and producer has already had the attention of Radio 1 and staged her first headline show in her home town last year. If she keeps her work rate up, there will be much to look forward to this year.
Rhea Marcia, a 22 year old singer songwriter from Birmingham emerged onto the scene with her debut single King of Dreams last year. She followed up with the ode to black Christian love called Sweetest Love. Rhea’s aim is to inspire her generation and she’s already made a strong start. She grew up listening to jazz and soul music and that’s evident in the music she makes today. Look our for more from her in 2022.
Keep your eye on Birmingham because here’s another artist from the Midlands who’s ready to do big things this year. LaToyah Bless released her debut single Light It Up and made waves with its reggae dancehall sound. The track is laced with fun, sunshine and most importantly an encouragement to be on fire for God, based on Matthew 5:14. LaToyah has already got another track in the works and if it’s as much of an anthem as her debut, we’re here for it.
Anna Efah, a 26 year old artist from London was immersed into music early on after seeing her parents sing with their band every Saturday. There was also no escaping the sound of Ghanian highlife music from the 70s and 80s permeating her family home courtesy of her mum and dad. But it was at her home church Trinity Baptist Church where she honed her vocals and training at school from Kingdom Choir member Clinton Jordan who also influenced her. Anna released her debut single Lost Without You right at the end of last year.
Last year, he had 84,000 streams of his music. He also made it as a Top 20 artist for the MOBO Unsung class of 2022. Some named his track Rocky as one of the biggest things to come out last year. It’s a far cry from his earlier days when 678Nath was in prison and just rapping with inmates to pass the time. He’s played rugby for Harlequins and makes music that causes people to think, reflect, dance. 678Nath has it all, including a good head on his shoulders. He’ll go far.
