The year was 2010 and a track was released that made us sit up and pay attention. It was a track called Jamaican Praise Medley and it was by a band we’d never come across before. Their name: Newworldson.
The thing that caught us off guard was that the performers of the track weren’t a Caribbean band but a Canadian group more noted for their blues/soul music. It was enough to intrigue us.
What we noticed primarily about Newworldson is the energy they bring and feel of a live recording, even on a studio track. They achieve that by being a group of polished performing musicians. They’re pros and you can definitely tell. Bring that flavour to a live stage and you’re laughing.
Newworldson are no strangers to us in Blighty. In fact, their most recent album All The Way Live was recorded in the UK. We’ll get to relive it when they hit the stage at Big Church Day Out this weekend.
Between them they have over a century of music experience, and we’re not just talking small scale here. We’re talking Motown, Marvin Gaye, Alicia Keys and the Police level. Yep, seriously.
If the Blues Brothers really did see the light, they’d probably sound like this!
Newworldson will be putting their stamp on the Main Stage at Big Church Day Out on Sunday.
